Survey incentives

Once a brand has decided to give out survey prizes, there are a few more considerations they make. For instance, they have to choose between the following kind of incentives: monetary, non-monetary, promised, or prepaid.

- Checks, cash, gift cards, money orders, and coupons count as monetary incentives, while non-monetary incentives include ‘thank you’ gifts such as a travel coffee mug or a journal.

- Monetary incentives like cash are great for increasing response rates. So, the more the amount on offer, the more participants you can expect to see in surveys before Black Friday.

- To decide how much they need to spend, brands look at their target population and budget constraints. For instance, if you are a student or working professional, your response may be more valuable to a brand since you may not have a lot of time, and thus, you will be rewarded well.

- If the survey you pick has a non-monetary reward on offer, check if it is appealing enough. For instance, you probably don’t want to be handed baseball hats as a reward for taking a longer survey.

- Sometimes incentives can also be prepaid, i.e., you will receive your reward before even completing the survey. On the other hand, promised incentives are when only the respondents who have completed the survey receive the incentive. You may see more people answering surveys with prepaid incentives than promised ones, which can be offered to you in the form of a gift certificate, too.
